Have a proper gander at this!

Here's a private commission I've just completed featuring Winston Smith, hero of George Orwell's classic dystopian nightmare "1984"... possibly my favourite novel ever. "1984" is the one book I would kill to adapt into a "Classics Illustrated"-style graphic novel.

This job was for a guy called Steven Gettis who runs a website called "Hey Oscar Wilde! It’s clobberin’ time!!!"on which various artists show their interpretations of their favourite literary figure, author or character.

I'm particularily pleased with my depiction of Big Brother, which is a rare case of something turning out exactly as I saw it in my head. He's a mash-up of propaganda images Hitler, Stalin and Lord Kitchener.

Nice.
There's a lot of subtext with that site: some of the artist's choices say a lot about their outlook on life.

This is so great!
There's just something so powerful about Propaganda Art. It commands one's attention like no other type of art can. Must be the little fascist guy on our shoulder whispering li'l "seig heils" in our ears; scary!

Chris, that's excellent work - even without the Big Brother is Watching text that jumped out and said 1984 to me, really caught the flavour of the book nicely, I think and the mix of propaganda images is inspired. If you don't mind I'm gonna have to stick a small version over on the Forbidden Planet blog and extol its virtues (would have done it sooner, but been off on hols).
